Troubleshooting

Fixes for common problems. Not listed? Email your log file and a short description to [email protected].

Windows warns when I run the installer

If Windows SmartScreen warns you, click More info, then Run anyway.

I cannot find the tray icon

  1. Click the ^ arrow at the right end of the taskbar.
  2. To keep the icon visible, open Windows Settings → Personalization → Taskbar → Other system tray icons and turn TesseraSnap on.
  3. Not in that list? Start TesseraSnap from the Start menu.

A shortcut does nothing

  1. If a notification says Some shortcuts are taken by another app, pick another combination on Keyboard Shortcuts. Avoid Win combinations: Windows reserves many.
  2. For Ctrl+Alt+arrow, turn off the screen-rotation hotkeys in the Intel graphics control panel.
  3. Close the Settings window (it pauses shortcuts), and check Ignored programs.

Some windows will not move

  1. For programs running as administrator, such as Task Manager, quit TesseraSnap and start it with Run as administrator.
  2. Windows with a fixed or minimum size cannot shrink to fit. The log notes each failed move and why.

Windows' own Snap still appears, or stays off

  1. Seeing both? Tick Pause Windows Snap while TesseraSnap is running on Settings → App Settings.
  2. Still off after TesseraSnap quits? Turn on Windows Settings → System → Multitasking → Snap windows, or restart.

A throw starts when I did not mean it

Raise Dead zone (px) on the Cursor Movement page, or choose different throw keys.

Throw, Stash or Pin Mode stopped working

  1. These are Pro features. Check your status at the bottom of the Settings sidebar.
  2. If the trial has ended, buy Pro and activate it. See Purchase & activation.

My middle or side mouse button stopped clicking

It is set as the throw button. On the Cursor Movement page, set Mouse button to None or another button.

A window is on the wrong screen, or off screen

  1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace (Restore) to put it back where it was.
  2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+← or → to move it to another display.
  3. If it is stashed, choose Bring Back All from the tray menu → Stash.

I want to start over

  1. To keep a copy, export your settings first.
  2. Quit TesseraSnap, then delete or rename %APPDATA%\TesseraSnap\config.toml.
  3. Start TesseraSnap. It writes a fresh file with every default.

Settings will not open, or asks for WebView2

The settings window needs Microsoft's WebView2 Runtime. Everything else works without it.

  1. Install the WebView2 Runtime (Evergreen version).
  2. Meanwhile, click Open config file in the Settings message to edit settings by hand. See Config file.

Report a bug

  1. Make the problem happen once more.
  2. Open Settings → App Settings → Open log folder.
  3. Email tesserasnap.log to [email protected]. Say what you did, what you expected, and your displays and their scaling.

The log is plain text and stays on your PC unless you send it.
