Installer or portable exe

Same program, same settings folder.

Recommended

Installer

TesseraSnapSetup-version.exe. Adds Start menu entries and an entry in Installed apps.

No install

Portable exe

tesserasnap-version-x64.exe. Keep it in a fixed folder, such as C:\Tools\TesseraSnap: launch at login remembers where it is.

What the installer does

No administrator rights, drivers, services or runtimes, and no changes to other programs. The free version goes online only when you ask it to check for updates.

While TesseraSnap runs, Windows' own Snap is paused; quitting turns it back on. See Windows' own Snap.

“Windows protected your PC”

If Windows SmartScreen warns you, click More info, then Run anyway. You only do this once per version.

If Microsoft Defender removes a file you downloaded here, open Windows Security → Protection history, open the entry and choose Allow.

First run

  1. Find the TesseraSnap icon at the right end of the taskbar. New icons start hidden behind the ^ arrow.
  2. Click a window and press Ctrl+Alt+←. It fills the left half of the screen.
  3. Hold Ctrl+Alt over a window and move the mouse to throw it (Pro, included in the trial).

Next: Getting started.

Update

Uninstall

Tip To keep your settings, use Export settings… on the App Settings page first. See Back up or move your settings.
  1. Open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  2. Find TesseraSnap and choose Uninstall.

This quits TesseraSnap, removes it from startup and the tesserasnap: link, and deletes %APPDATA%\TesseraSnap (settings and log). One registry value, your first-run date, stays so reinstalling doesn't restart the trial.

Portable exe: untick Launch TesseraSnap when I sign in in Settings → App Settings, choose Quit TesseraSnap in the tray menu, then delete the exe and %APPDATA%\TesseraSnap.
