Price and Pro

Is TesseraSnap free?

Yes, with no time limit: shortcuts, drag-to-snap, custom sizes, the tray menu and Settings. Pro is a one-time upgrade from $9.99.

What does TesseraSnap Pro add?

Throw, Long Throw, Quick Throw, Move & Resize, Layouts, Stash and Pin Mode. See the plan comparison.

Is there a free trial of Pro?

Yes. Every install gets 7 days of every Pro feature, with no account, email or card. Afterwards the free features keep working. See How the trial works.

Is Pro a subscription?

No. One payment, from $9.99, buys a lifetime license with future Pro features included.

How many PCs can I use Pro on?

Each PC needs its own license. A 2-PC pack ($14.95) covers two, such as home and work; a 3-PC pack ($19.95) covers three.

How do I buy Pro?

On the Pricing page, or choose Buy TesseraSnap Pro… in the tray menu. Your license key arrives by email with the receipt (how buying works).

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 14 days of buying, no questions asked: email [email protected]. See the refund policy.

Is TesseraSnap in the Microsoft Store?

Yes. There, Pro is an in-app purchase at the same price with no license key, and Microsoft handles payment and refunds. See Microsoft Store.

Using TesseraSnap

Does TesseraSnap conflict with Windows Snap?

No. It pauses Windows Snap, Win+arrow included, while it runs; use Ctrl+Alt+arrow instead. To keep both, see Windows' own Snap.

Does it work with multiple monitors and different scaling?

Yes, even with different scaling on each display. Ctrl+Alt+Shift+← or → moves a window to another display. See Multiple displays.

Why can't TesseraSnap move some windows, like Task Manager?

Windows doesn't let a normal program move windows that run as administrator. To manage them, start TesseraSnap with Run as administrator. See Troubleshooting.

Can I change the keyboard shortcuts?

Yes, all of them. In Settings, click an action's shortcut box, press the keys and click Save. See Change a shortcut.

Coming from a Mac window manager?

The default shortcuts are the ones you know, with Ctrl+Alt for Ctrl+Option, and Throw works the same way. See Switching from a Mac.

Does it work with games and full-screen apps?

Yes. TesseraSnap only moves a window when you ask. If a game needs one of its shortcuts, change it, or add the game to Ignored programs.

Will TesseraSnap slow down my PC?

No. It is one small program, written straight against the Windows API, that does as little as it can. See About.

Coming from another tool

I used WinSplit Revolution. What replaces it?

WinSplit is no longer developed. TesseraSnap does the same job: halves, thirds and quarters on Ctrl+Alt shortcuts that cycle when you press them again. See Keyboard shortcuts.

Is there a replacement for WindowGrid or GridMove?

Both stopped being updated years ago. TesseraSnap has no grid to draw on, but keyboard placements, snap areas and ten custom sizes cover most of the same ground.

What about Divvy for Windows?

Divvy for Windows hasn't been updated since 2017. TesseraSnap has no grid, but 22 shortcuts are ready on install and any placement can take one.

I used Dexpot. Does TesseraSnap do virtual desktops?

No. Windows 11 has them built in (Win+Tab, Win+Ctrl+D), and TesseraSnap works on whichever desktop you're on.

Is TesseraSnap a tiling window manager?

No. It only moves the windows you tell it to. For automatic tiling, see tiling window managers.

Install, settings and privacy

Does TesseraSnap work on Windows 10?

It installs on Windows 10 version 2004 and later, but it is built and tested for Windows 11. See System requirements.

Does it need administrator rights?

No. It installs for your user account only, with no admin prompt. See What the installer does.

Does TesseraSnap need the internet? What does it collect?

No telemetry, no analytics. The free version goes online only when you check for updates; Pro also checks its license now and then. See the privacy policy.

Where are my settings stored?

In config.toml, a plain text file in %APPDATA%\TesseraSnap. To move them to another PC, use Export settings… in App Settings. See Config file.

How do I uninstall TesseraSnap?

In Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps, choose Uninstall next to TesseraSnap. It also deletes your settings and turns Windows Snap back on. See Uninstall.
