Menu & icon
The TesseraSnap icon in the notification area opens a menu of window placements, each with a picture of where the window goes and its shortcut. You can also open the menu at the pointer.
The tray icon
- The icon is the TesseraSnap mark: four small tiles.
- Click it with either mouse button to open the menu.
- Point at it for your status, for example TesseraSnap · Pro trial: 5 days left.
- Windows may hide it behind the ^ arrow; see Find the tray icon.
- To change its color, see Appearance and tray icon.
- Notifications appear here, for example when another app has taken a shortcut.
Place a window from the menu
- Click the window you want to move.
- Click the TesseraSnap icon.
- Choose an action, for example First Third. Less common ones are in submenus.
The grayed line above the actions names the window that will move, for example Notepad — notes.txt.
What is in the menu
About and Buy are at the top; Check for Updates, Settings and Quit at the bottom. The window actions in between start from the taskbar side.
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| About TesseraSnap | Shows the version and where the config file is. |
| Buy TesseraSnap Pro…, status line | Opens the pricing page; shows your status, for example Pro trial: 5 days left. Hidden once you have a license. |
| Target line | Grayed: the window the menu acts on, or No window in front. |
| Favorites | The actions you picked on the Menu page. |
| Halves, Quarters, Thirds | Includes Center Half and two-thirds. See All actions. |
| Maximize, Almost Maximize, Maximize Height | Fill the screen, nearly fill it, or fill its height. |
| Center, your first custom size, Restore, Last Position | Center the window; apply your first custom size (Near maximum by default); return it to where it was before TesseraSnap first moved it, or before the last move. |
| Next Display, Previous Display | Move the window to another monitor. |
| Fill, Fourths, Sixths | Submenus with less common placements. |
| Custom Sizes | Your other custom sizes. Shown once you have a second one. |
| Layouts | A submenu per saved layout: Restore name and one item per app (Pro). |
| Multiple Windows | Tile All Windows, Cascade All Windows, Reveal Desktop Edge. |
| Stash | Every stash command (Pro). |
| Ignore app | For example Ignore Notepad: TesseraSnap stops moving that program's windows. Undo it under Settings → Behavior → Ignored programs. |
| Save Current Layout… | Saves where every window is as a layout (Pro). |
| Check for Updates… | Looks for a newer version. |
| Settings | Opens Settings. |
| Quit TesseraSnap | Exits. Stashed windows come back and Windows Snap switches back on. |
Off until you tick them on the Menu page: Fifths, Eighths, Ninths, Resize, Move, and Pin Mode's items.
Choose what the menu shows
On Settings → Menu, under Groups, top to bottom, each group has a row:
- The tick shows or hides the group (
menu.groups). - Submenu folds the group into one item (
menu.submenus). - The arrow opens the row, where you can untick single commands (
menu.hidden). They still work from shortcuts, throws and snap areas. - The up and down arrows reorder the groups.
Also on the Menu page:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
Show window actions in the menu menu.show_actions | Untick for a short menu: favorites, Stash, Ignore and TesseraSnap's own commands. |
Pin Mode pin.show_in_menu | Under After the groups. Off by default. |
Stash stash.show_in_menu | Under After the groups. On by default. |
| Favorites | Up to six actions, listed first. |
| Opacity | How see-through the menu is. |
| Left click on the tray icon | Opens the menu, Settings, or a short menu of your favorites. |
Open the menu at the pointer
On the Menu page, under Opening the menu:
- Open with a shortcut
show_menu - Default: none. The Show Menu shortcut opens the menu at the pointer for the window in front; it also works on a throw direction.
- Open with keys + click
menu.click_modifiers - Default: none (off). Hold the ticked keys and left-click a window to open the menu there, for that window. Record key adds one more key.
