Settings
The Settings window holds every TesseraSnap option. This page covers the window and its Behavior and App Settings pages.
Open the Settings window
Use any of these; all but the first work with the tray icon hidden.
- Click the tray icon and choose Settings.
- In the Start menu, choose TesseraSnap Settings.
- Start TesseraSnap again while it is running.
- Run
tesserasnap.exe --settings(see Command line).
How the window works
- Save applies changes at once, with no restart, and writes
config.toml. - Cancel or Esc closes without changes.
- Shortcuts pause while it is open, so you can record one TesseraSnap already uses.
- A number outside its range is pulled back in when you save.

Behavior
Each group on this page has an (i) button that explains it.
Repeated shortcuts
- Pressing a half, quarter or third shortcut again
repeat_mode - Default: Cycles sizes. What a repeat press on the same window does (options below).
- After the last size, continue on the next display
cycle_displays - Default: off. With Cycles sizes, the press after the last size moves on to the next display.
| Option | A repeat press |
|---|---|
| Cycles sizes | Halves step through ½, ⅔ and ⅓; thirds walk across the screen (Repeat a shortcut). |
| Does nothing new | Same size every time; custom sizes skip their “Then” action. |
| Moves it to the next display | Same spot on the next display. |
Maximize
- Maximize uses the real Windows maximize state
native_maximize - Default: on. Off, Maximize fills the screen with a normal window you can still drag and resize.
Gaps
- Gap between windows (px)
gap - Default: 0. Range 0 to 200. Space between windows placed side by side.
- Gap at screen edges (px)

-1means the same asgap).

- Larger / smaller / nudge step (px)
resize_step - Default: 40. Range 1 to 500. Step for Larger, Smaller, the width and height actions, and nudges.

Mouse pointer
- Move the cursor to the window after it moves
move_cursor_with_window - Default: off. After a shortcut or tray menu command moves a window, the pointer jumps to its middle.
Ignored programs
- Ignored programs
ignored_processes - Default: empty. Programs TesseraSnap never moves: type a file name from Task Manager → Details, such as
game.exe, and press Enter.
App Settings
Startup
- Launch TesseraSnap when I sign in
launch_at_login - Default: on. Starts TesseraSnap when you sign in to Windows; it applies without Save.
Windows Snap
- Pause Windows Snap while TesseraSnap is running
snap.disable_windows_snap - Default: on. Turns Windows' own Snap off while TesseraSnap runs and back on when it quits (see Getting started).
Accent color
Pick a color you can see well: the footprint uses it to show where a window will land.
- Accent (Pro)
accent - Default: Blue. Eight colors (blue, green, red, orange, purple, teal, pink, graphite), or any color from the rainbow circle.
- It colors the footprint, snap targets, the throw's target cursor, tray menu pictures, the tray icon and Settings.
- Apply or Save makes a new color live outside Settings.
- Without Pro, TesseraSnap uses blue and brings your color back when Pro is active.
Appearance and tray icon
- Theme
theme - Default: Match Windows. Light or dark for Settings and the tray menu; Light and Dark override Windows.
- Tray icon
tray_icon - Default: In the accent color. Other choices are White or black, to match the taskbar, White and Black; all work without Pro.
- Hide the tray icon
hide_tray_icon - Default: off. TesseraSnap keeps running but shows no notices; open Settings from the Start menu.
Updates
Check for updates… asks tesserasnap.com for a newer version; click the notice to open the download page.
- Check for updates automatically
check_updates - Default: off. Checks at most once a day and shows one notice per new version.
- Checks run only when you ask and download one small file naming the newest version (privacy policy).
- In the Microsoft Store version, the Store handles updates and this section shows your version.

Keyboard shortcuts
